Windows Update Problem Service Registration Is Missing Or Corrupt
Hi folks...
My windows 10 laptop (64 bit) stopped updating it self around 4/5/17. I noticed that Windows Defender would not update. I tried to update it using Windows defender but that did not work. And when I clicked on Settings, Update and Security, and then Update, windows said it had no updates for me.
I found a Windows update Fix it utility on Microsoft's web site. It is called 'Troubleshooting Pack Cabinet'. When I run it, it finds many things wrong. Then it says it has fixed everything. It displays a long list of things it found wrong, and next to each is a green check mark as if to say 'I fixed it!'. Then I run it again, and it says:
'Service registration is missing or corrupt'. And it has a big red X.
I found out how to manual down load the update to Windows Defender. When I did that, I was able to manually update it. And after the manual update, Windows defender can now update it self.
But when I go to Update and Security, and then Update, it check and says no update are available. When I click on 'Update History' it says the last update that was made to my software was on April 5th.
Any thoughts on fixing this 'Service registration is missing or corrupt' issue?
I have run Windows Defender (in full mode not quick) and I installed and ran Malwarebytes and ran that. So bad things detected.
Any help appreciated.
