Presuming the game's in c:gamesheroes, go to dosbox and type:
mount f c:gamesheroes -t cdrom
mount c c:games
cd heroes
heroes

Here is the solution for those stuck to that 'unable to access CD drive' error in DosBox:
Drag the SETUP.EXE to the DosBox Icon, then configure you video and audio cards.
After saving it Alt + tab, select GO.BAT and drag it to the DosBox Icon.
That's it, have fun! =D

I am having a problem with this game as well. I do have some other games downloaded that do play just fine from this site on Dosbox so not sure if it's just these games or if I need to do something different. Having trouble with this and I am not tech inclined! I boot it up, it opens DosBox and then it closes without an error message. My other games work fine, but not this one. What am I doing wrong?

OOps. Unfortunately you cant save doing it that way. So instead you either add a flashdrive and mount it as a cdrom drive. As done below. Or you can use a second harddisk. Example:
Mount f f: -t cdrom
Mount c c:games

Hi Guys
You dont need a 'no cd' crack
Just do the following in DosBox to mount your harddisk as a cdrom drive.
(In my case the harddisk is the c: drive)
mount d C: -t cdrom
Then hopefully it should say: Drive C is mounted as a cdrom
Now you can start the game as you useually would

It’s impossible to keep count of how many hours I’ve spent playing Heroes of Might and Magic III, but that was because I first fell in love with Heroes II. I’ll never forget the first time I saw it load on a friend’s computer screen, then seeing the humans, creatures and monsters fight.

The gameplay, the design, the combat mechanics, it was all absolutely charming. It quickly became addictive. It’s tough to get the harp sound out of my head, you know, the one that plays when you collect resources. What a wonderful game Heroes of Might and Magic II was.

The Past Tense is the correct one to use because HOMM II is something you go back to because of nostalgia.

A perfect example of a game that was built to be memorable

As far as turn-based strategy games go, Heroes of Might and Magic II isn’t all that known, the third title was the one what took the world by storm. However, HOMM II paved the path to TBS success. It improved the first title and increased complexity as well as depth.

Heroes of Might and Magic II was a game you played for pure enjoyment, and of course, for the epicness of the battles. Every little piece of gameplay made sense, the factions were accurately balanced and player skill almost always made the difference in the outcome of a battle.

Even now, staring into the severely outdated graphics, it still looks fantastic

Today, it’s quite the challenge to play Heroes of Might and Magic II, and you rarely hear someone mention it in a conversation that starts with “Guess what I played today”. It barely runs on a modern system without a bit of aid from third party software but it’s well worth the effort. It always will be.

Starting with your hero and a small army, exploring and gathering resources to built a mighty castle, recruiting a few more units and making the best out of every battle is what keeps you coming back to this game time, after time, after time. It’s a true turn-based strategy game.
