Candid-hd Amazing Dolphin Encounter
My husband and I went to ocean park on Monday 7th November and spent around 4 hours there - 1 1/2 hours of which was the dolphin encounter. I wasn't sure about whether we should go to Disney or Ocean Park - but from forum advice decided to try ocean park. The website was quite helpful - as I found details on it of the dolphin encounter program. This was really good fun! It cost an additional hkd$685 approx. I booked it 2 weeks in advance over the internet as there are limited places on it. Basically you get to go behind the scenes to meet the dolphins. The encounter consisted of 1/2 hour induction class learning about dolphins. Then those taking part in the encounter changed into waterproof waders and then got to feed and touch the dolphins. I really enjoyed this! I learnt so much about the beautiful creatures and loved meeting them. My husband wasn't taking part, but as a guest got to join me in both the class and watching me in the little pool - at no cost. I thoroughly recommend this! We also saw one of the pandas (an an - chi chi was resting!) which I also enjoyed. I do have a bad fear of heights and was dreading it, but wanted to say I had done it. The ride is really hairy, lots of clunking noises and jolts - however, the view from the car is great - if you are brave enough to open your eyes!!!!
We weren't really bothered for the rides, and I can appreciate those comments that say the park is dated in that we chose not to eat there, and some of the attractions were closed for refurbishment.
I found it hard to score this - because the dolphin encounter was excellent in my view, however overall I think the park is average - I have therefore gone in between the two. If you are simply wanting a day for the kids on different rides etc, then I suspect Disney is the better option, however if you love animals, and want a day out of the mad rush of Hong Kong, Ocean Park is worth going to and has some lovely scenery.
